Lawlor Burns & Associates are proud to have provided cost control services for the Nenagh Community Nursing Unit. This modern 50-bed Community Nursing Unit is being constructed adjacent to Nenagh General Hospital and replaces an outdated 1970s nursing home with a cutting-edge facility that meets the specific needs of elderly care.
KEY FEATURES:
The nursing unit has been designed to create a homelike environment for long-term residents, balancing social and private spaces to encourage independence and reduce isolation. The layout ensures residents can safely and easily move throughout the building, with features like:
- Dedicated 10-bed dementia care unit.
- Maximised access to social spaces for fostering interaction.
- Modern facilities designed to support comfort, safety, and dignity.
CHALLENGES & CONSIDERATIONS:
This project required careful planning to ensure a design that avoids an institutional feel and instead fosters a sense of community. For many residents, this will be their final home, meaning every detail had to contribute to improving both quality of life and physical health. Balancing comfort, safety, and functionality has been central to the project’s vision.
OUTCOME:
The Nenagh Community Nursing Unit is set to be completed in 2024. Once operational, the facility will provide a high standard of care, setting new benchmarks in elderly healthcare design while enhancing the lives of its residents and their families.
