We are proud to announce that the Shorcontrol Safety project in Naas, Co. Kildare, was Highly Commended in the Large Public Building category at the 2024 Wood Awards. Lawlor Burns provided our expert quantity surveying services on this outstanding project, valued at approximately €4.8m (including VAT).
Shorcontrol Safety is a leader in health & safety training, equipment, and testing. Having outgrown their previous premises, they decided to expand with the construction of a purpose-built flagship training facility. The design of the building, located on a long narrow site at the end of an industrial estate, integrates seamlessly with its natural surroundings, including a small stream forming the rear boundary.
The project features a striking timber glulam frame expressed as a colonnade along the roadfront, creating a welcoming and distinctive aspect. Inside, a double-height atrium offers a spacious and uplifting relaxation area for classrooms and offices, with stunning views of the landscaped riverside and the pastoral scenery beyond.
The Wood Awards Ireland (WAI) is organised by Forest Industries Ireland (FII), in partnership with the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI) and Enterprise Ireland (EI) and support from the Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. The awards celebrate the use of wood in sustainable and innovative building projects in Ireland and overseas.
